Kolathupalayam Address: Udhayanidhi Stalin Condemns 'Sofa Model' Rulers for Subverting Mandates Before Voting Ink Dried

Addressing an enthusiastic campaign gathering in Kolathupalayam for the Dharapuram Assembly by-election, Tamil Nadu Leader of the Opposition and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin delivered a stinging rebuke of the ruling administration’s unconstitutional maneuvers. Flanked by senior party functionaries K.N. Nehru, M.P. Saminathan, and V. Senthilbalaji, Udhayanidhi called for a resounding victory for DMK candidate Sister Sukanya on the Rising Sun symbol. Udhayanidhi observed with indignation that before the indelible ink had even dried on voters’ fingers following the general assembly polls, the ruling coalition brazenly engineered defections, bending turncoat candidates who had contested on rival platforms to cobble together power. He characterized this manufactured majority as the epitome of 'Sofa Model' governance—an indolent, power-hungry apparatus that imposes wasteful by-elections on citizens merely to protect fragile personal arrangements and illicit patronage networks. Stressing that sovereignty resides exclusively with the electorate, Udhayanidhi urged the handloom weavers, agricultural workers, and women self-help group members of Kolathupalayam to smash the regime’s arrogance at the ballot box. He emphasized that electing Sister Sukanya will reaffirm democratic propriety, defeat authoritarian opportunism, and ensure that Dharapuram’s developmental priorities and social welfare receive unyielding representation in the Legislative Assembly.
