I thank Sathya Palanikumar, secretary of the Women’s Volunteer Wing; brother Yuvaraj, district Youth Wing organiser; all the DMK functionaries present here; the office-bearers of every party wing, including the Youth Wing; the representatives of our alliance parties, including the Dravidar Kazhagam, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi; all the local-body representatives; the mothers, younger sisters and elder sisters who have come here; the party functionaries who have travelled from several districts to work in this election; and Kalaignar’s beloved cadres. My thanks to all of you. I came to this same Dharapuram five months ago. I asked you to vote for the Rising Sun symbol. You said you would vote and make us win. But we lost the opportunity to win. Do you know who is responsible for this by-election coming again today? Voting took place on April 23, and the votes were counted on May 4. To form a government in Tamil Nadu, a party must have at least 118 elected MLAs. Does this government, which has been formed today, have a clear majority? The people of Tamil Nadu elected only 107 MLAs. You must vote for sister Suganya on the Rising Sun symbol, give her a large margin, and send her to the Assembly. Will you do it? We have entrusted our winning candidate, Suganya, to you with the hope that you will not repeat the mistake you made once. She is well educated. She is a lawyer. She has studied law. If she is elected as an MLA, she will certainly speak in the Assembly for you, for your constituency and for the people of this area. All the ruling-party MLAs have come here today, haven’t they? You have watched on television what they are doing in the Assembly, haven’t you? The Chief Minister here took office on May 10. Did he take office with a majority? No. He had only 107 MLAs. What did he do? He formed the government with the support of our alliance parties, which had stood with us, used our leader’s name, contested under the Rising Sun symbol and won. They found a reason to ask our alliance parties for support: a Governor’s rule must not come to Tamil Nadu. Some people left after informing our leader. Others left secretly, without telling him. You know who they are. We will not forget it. The people of Tamil Nadu will not forget it. The people of Tamil Nadu will never forget those who stab them in the back. Some people, including the MLA sitting here whom you elected, have stabbed you in the back. Will you give them that opportunity again? What did this Chief Minister do? He carried sofas to the homes of AIADMK leaders and delivered them himself. He went there with a sofa in his hands. You all saw it on television, didn’t you? Sofas went to the homes of leaders of every party. Who carried them there? The Chief Minister himself. Door delivery by the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister took office on May 10. The vote of confidence took place in the Assembly on May 14. When I spoke, I spoke as the Leader of the Opposition. I told him, “You do not have a clear majority. You need 118, and you do not have that number. You won by using our leader’s name, by talking about the achievements of our government, and by asking for votes. You have formed this government with our support.” On top of that, you almost split the AIADMK into two. One group would vote for you, and you planned to form the government with that support. We said we would not stay inside to watch this disgrace, announced a walkout, and came outside. On May 11, what were the names of the MLAs you had all elected and sent there? Sathyabama? No, did you change her name from Sathyabama to something else? “Box Bama”? Sofas for party leaders. Boxes for MLAs. Do you know what this Chief Minister has been doing since this government was formed? When he sees a DMK MLA, he files a case against them. When he sees an AIADMK MLA, he gives them a box and buys them. They accuse us by saying, “These people are giving money for votes. They are giving money to voters.” Do you know what this Chief Minister’s big change is? Picking up MLAs wholesale and breaking parties. That is exactly what has happened: nearly seven AIADMK MLAs have been picked up after being given boxes. He took office on May 10. All the MLAs took office on May 14. We took office as MLAs. Ten days. By May 23, the ink on their fingers would not even have dried. They had changed parties and joined another party. We said it then. Our leader said, “Unjust horse-trading is happening here. You are buying every MLA for a price!” They said, “What proof is there of horse-trading? No horse-trading is happening.” Now I will tell you. You elected these MLAs and sent them there. You voted for them under a particular symbol. They have now changed parties, gone to another party, received a ticket from that same party, and been handed back to you. People of Dharapuram, especially the people of Nathampalayam, you voted for the AIADMK. They have come back to you believing that you will vote again for the candidate who contested for the AIADMK. Will you make that mistake again? The ruling-party candidate now standing is the person you already voted for. If you vote for that person again, do you think they will go to the Assembly and speak for you? Have you all started watching Bigg Boss this time? There was another Bigg Boss before Bigg Boss. Do you know what it was? The Assembly sat for 40 days. Do you know how hard we worked? In the Assembly, MLAs speak about the problems in their constituencies. They say, “There is no road in our constituency. There is no water. There is a sewage problem. Build us a community hall. Set up a playground. Build us a school.” They say, “This is the problem in our constituency. Fix it.” That is what we speak about. DMK members speak about people’s problems in the Assembly. We ask questions. We ask questions. The ruling party, especially the Chief Minister, has never opened his mouth to answer this. That is the record. He says, “I do not know about that. You will say something from below and leave. That man will get angry and file a case against me. I do not agree with this. There is already a case against me.” I said, “There is no water.” He got angry about that. Is that right? Madam, when a question is asked in the Assembly, someone answers it. The Chief Minister answers, or the minister in charge of that department stands up and answers. Then we can ask another question. We can ask a supplementary question. If they sing, what are we supposed to do? Are we supposed to attend singing classes for this? Is this just a singing forum? I said it in the Assembly itself: “Honourable Speaker, we have a doubt. Have we come to the Assembly, or have we come to a Super Singer programme?” Everyone is singing. The minister is singing. All the MLAs are singing. The Speaker is singing. The Chief Minister starts acting as soon as the Speaker says “Action.” It feels like we have gone to a shooting spot. Let me ask you something. The Chief Minister spoke, acted and shouted during the election campaign in Madurantakam. What a shout. Did anyone see it? Some of you must have. Some of you may have missed it. Those who missed it need not worry. He will come here again the day after tomorrow. For the last two years, he has spoken about nothing except that. You know the broken tape recorder that keeps talking when you switch it on? It keeps singing the same song. Just yesterday, the Chief Minister spoke for 30 minutes in Madurantakam. In those 30 minutes, he said “DMK, DMK” 32 times. Even we do not speak about the DMK that much. We do not. He has that much affection for us. Or fear. He knows nothing else. Do you know what one of the current MLAs said? A ruling-party MLA stood up and said: “Honourable Speaker, I cannot see the Chief Minister. Everyone sitting on the Opposition side can see him. We come to the Assembly only to see the Chief Minister. We want to see him smile. We want to see his face. So give us a television so that we can see him while sitting here. When we sit here, we cannot see his face.” I stood up and said, “All the ruling-party MLAs should stand up and come sit on our side. We will leave. We cannot sit here and look at his face.” This is what is happening in the Assembly. One MLA stood up and spoke. Do you know what he said? “Thank you, Chief Minister.” Why thank him? He said, “I had no job. He gave me a job. I had no house. He arranged a house for me. I had no car. He arranged a car for me. I suffered a failed love affair.” He really said it. Why did the love affair fail? I was stunned. Does this Chief Minister have schemes for all of this? Is this the change the people of Tamil Nadu asked for? Is this the great disappointment? You know what they promised before coming to power. Did they do even one of those things? For example... what was it, London? Do you want to file another case against me? Leave that for now. Remember the promises they made. Do you know what he said during the election campaign? Did our leader give women a monthly Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai of ₹1,000 or not? He said he would raise it to ₹2,500 the moment he came to power. Did he do it? He said he would do it the moment he came to power. Did he? He did not. After that, he said he would give six cooking-gas cylinders a year. Did he give them the moment he came to power? He has only just announced it. And even then, it is three cylinders. Not now; he says he will give them next year. He said he would give unemployed young people a monthly incentive of ₹4,500 the moment he came to power. Did he give it? There is not even a word about it. He made another important announcement. What was it? Did he say he would waive farmers’ entire crop loans? Do it. Do that first. I asked for water. Did he file a case against me for that? Our leader made a promise. He promised that, if he came to power, he would give women ₹2,000 under the women’s rights scheme. He would have given ₹8,000 to every family. He said it. Would he have given it? Wouldn’t he? By now, he would have given it. What is this government’s achievement? Before coming to power, what did the Chief Minister say? “The contest is only between two people.” He has repeated that until now. He repeated it yesterday too. That is why our leader says this. I will say it in this Chief Minister’s own language: “Yes, now the contest is only between two things. One is power cuts; the other is political cuts.” Everywhere you look, there are power cuts. There is no power even in the Chief Minister’s constituency. There is no power even at events attended by ministers. Yesterday, the power went out while a minister was speaking. This is such a poor government. They have the nerve to win under the AIADMK symbol through the work of AIADMK cadres, change parties within ten days, and then hand the same candidate back to you. They think you will repeat the mistake you made last time. If you make that “Box Bama” win again, they will go to the Assembly and do nothing but sing. They will sing in praise of the Chief Minister, or they will make reels. The AIADMK is also contesting. If you vote for them again and make them win, they will take another box and go back to them. So I ask you only one thing: do not repeat the same mistake you made last time. Go to the polling station on the 6th. The name of our winning candidate, sister Suganya, will be in the third place on the ballot paper. Vote for her, and on the 9th, when the votes are counted, her name must come first. The news must say that Suganya, the candidate for the Dharapuram Assembly constituency, has won. Will you make it happen? I have only one thing to tell you. There are still 10 days. Soon there will be only nine. All of you have made your decision. You have decided to teach this ruling party a proper lesson in this by-election. During the next nine days, go from house to house, meet every voter, and take this campaign to the people in your homes and to your friends. Why should you vote for the Rising Sun symbol? Why should you make sister Suganya win? You must make her win by a large margin. Will you do it? Is victory certain? I ask all of you with love. I ask you with respect. I ask you with affection. I ask you with the right of one of your own. I ask you as a child of your homes. I ask you as our leader’s son. And, with even greater pride, I ask you as the grandson of Dr Kalaignar. Vote for sister Suganya on the Rising Sun symbol and give her a great victory. With that request, and with thanks to all of you who gave us this warm welcome, I take your leave. Thank you. Vanakkam.

ஏப்ரல் 23-ஆம் தேதி தேர்தல் நாளில் வாக்குப்பதிவு நடந்தது. மே 4-ஆம் தேதி வாக்கு எண்ணிக்கை நடந்தது. தமிழ்நாட்டில் ஆட்சி அமைக்க வேண்டுமென்றால், ஒரு கட்சிக்கு குறைந்தது 118 சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும். ஆனால், இன்று அமைந்திருக்கிற இந்த ஆட்சி, அறுதிப் பெரும்பான்மையைப் பெற்ற ஆட்சியா? நீங்கள் ஒரு முறை செய்த தவறை இன்னொரு முறை செய்ய மாட்டீர்கள் என்ற நம்பிக்கையில், நம்முடைய வெற்றி வேட்பாளர் சுகன்யாவை உங்களிடம் ஒப்படைத்திருக்கிறோம். அவர் நன்கு படித்தவர்; வழக்கறிஞர்; சட்டம் படித்தவர். சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினராகத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டால், உங்களுக்காக, உங்களுடைய தொகுதிக்காக, இந்தப் பகுதி மக்களுக்காக சட்டமன்றத்தில் நிச்சயம் குரல் கொடுக்கக்கூடியவர். இன்று ஆளுங்கட்சி எம்எல்ஏக்கள் எல்லாம் வந்திருக்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா? அவர்கள் சட்டசபையில் என்ன செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள் என்று தொலைக்காட்சியில் நேரடியாகப் பார்த்திருக்கிறீர்கள் இல்லையா? மே 10-ஆம் தேதி இங்கு இருக்கும் முதலமைச்சர் பொறுப்பேற்றுக்கொண்டார். பெரும்பான்மையோடு போய் பொறுப்பேற்றுக்கொண்டாரா? கிடையாது. அவருக்குக் கிடைத்தது வெறும் 107 எம்எல்ஏக்கள்தான். என்ன செய்தார்? நம்முடன் கூட்டணியில் இருந்து, நம் தலைவரின் பெயரைச் சொல்லி, உதயசூரியன் சின்னத்தில் நின்று வெற்றி பெற்ற நம் கூட்டணிக் கட்சிகளின் ஆதரவோடு ஆட்சி அமைத்தார். தமிழ்நாட்டுக்குள் ஆளுநர் ஆட்சி வந்துவிடக் கூடாது என்பதற்காக, நம் கூட்டணிக் கட்சிகள் ஆதரவு தர வேண்டும் என்று ஒரு காரணத்தைக் கண்டுபிடித்துப் போனார்கள். ஒருசிலர் தலைவரிடம் சொல்லிவிட்டுப் போனார்கள். இன்னும் சிலர் தலைவரிடம் சொல்லாமலேயே திருட்டுத்தனமாகப் போனார்கள். அது யார் என்று உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும். நிச்சயம் அதை நாம் மறக்க மாட்டோம். தமிழ்நாட்டு மக்கள் மறக்க மாட்டார்கள். முதுகில் குத்தும் துரோகிகளைத் தமிழ்நாட்டு மக்கள் என்றைக்கும் மறக்க மாட்டார்கள். ஒருசிலர் தலைவரை, இப்போது இங்கே இருக்கக்கூடிய சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர், நீங்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுத்த உறுப்பினர், உங்கள் முதுகில் குத்தியிருக்கிறார். அவருக்கு மீண்டும் அந்த வாய்ப்பைக் கொடுப்பீர்களா? இந்த முதலமைச்சர் என்ன செய்தார்? அதிமுக தலைவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரின் வீட்டுக்கும் அவரே சோபாவை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போய் டெலிவரி செய்வார். கையில் சோபாவுடனேயே போனார். எல்லோரும் தொலைக்காட்சியில் பார்த்திருப்பீர்கள்; பார்த்தீர்களா, இல்லையா? எல்லாக் கட்சித் தலைவர்களின் வீடுகளுக்கும் சோபா போனது. சோபாவை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போனது யார்? முதலமைச்சர் அவரே டெலிவரி செய்தார். டோர் டெலிவரி செய்தார். அதே மாதிரி, மே 10-ஆம் தேதி ஆட்சி பொறுப்பேற்றுக்கொண்டார் முதலமைச்சர். மே 14-ஆம் தேதி சட்டசபையில் வாக்கெடுப்பு நடந்தது. நான் பேசும்போது எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவராகப் பேசினேன். உங்களுக்கு அறுதிப் பெரும்பான்மை கிடையாது. 118 வேண்டும்; உங்களிடம் அந்த எண்ணிக்கை கிடையாது. எங்கள் தலைவரின் பெயரைச் சொல்லி, எங்கள் ஆட்சியின் சாதனைகளைச் சொல்லி, வாக்குக் கேட்டு வெற்றி பெற்று, எங்கள் தயவால் ஆட்சி அமைக்கிறீர்கள். அது மட்டும் இல்லாமல், அதிமுகவை கிட்டத்தட்ட இரண்டாகப் பிளந்துவிட்டீர்கள். அதில் ஒரு குழு உங்களுக்கு வாக்களிக்கும். அதை வைத்து நீங்கள் ஆட்சி அமைக்கப் போகிறீர்கள். இந்தக் கருமத்தைப் பார்க்க நாங்கள் உள்ளே இருக்க மாட்டோம்; வெளிநடப்பு செய்கிறோம் என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு வெளிநடப்பு செய்து வெளியே வந்துவிட்டோம். மே 11-ஆம் தேதி, நீங்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து அனுப்பிய எல்லா சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களின் பெயர்கள் என்ன? சத்யபாமாவா? இல்லை, சத்யபாமா என்ற பெயரை மாற்றிவிட்டீர்களா? பெட்டி பாமாவா? கட்சித் தலைவர்களுக்கு எல்லாம் சோபா. சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களுக்கெல்லாம் பெட்டி. இந்த ஆட்சி அமைந்ததிலிருந்து இந்த முதலமைச்சர் என்ன செய்கிறார் தெரியுமா? திமுக எம்எல்ஏவைப் பார்த்தால் அவர்கள் மீது வழக்குப் போடுவது; அதிமுக எம்எல்ஏவைப் பார்த்தால் அவர்களுக்கு பெட்டி கொடுத்து அவர்களை வாங்குவது. நம்மைப் பார்த்து, “இவர்கள் ஓட்டுக்குப் பணம் கொடுக்கிறார்கள், வாக்காளர்களுக்குப் பணம் கொடுக்கிறார்கள்” என்று சொல்வார்கள். ஆனால், இந்த முதலமைச்சரின் பெரிய மாற்றம் என்ன தெரியுமா? மொத்தமாக எம்எல்ஏக்களையே தூக்குவது; கட்சியையே உடைப்பது. இப்போது அப்படித்தான் அதிமுக எம்எல்ஏக்களில் இருந்து கிட்டத்தட்ட ஏழு எம்எல்ஏக்களைப் பெட்டி கொடுத்து தூக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள். மே 10-ஆம் தேதி ஆட்சி பொறுப்பேற்றுக்கொண்டார். மே 14-ஆம் தேதி அனைத்து சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களும் பொறுப்பேற்றுக்கொண்டோம். சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களாகப் பொறுப்பேற்றுக்கொண்டோம். பத்தே நாள். மே 23-ஆம் தேதி, விரலில் வைத்த அந்த மை கூட காய்ந்திருக்காது; அவர்கள் கட்சி மாறிப் போய் வேறு கட்சியில் போய்ச் சேர்ந்தார்கள். அப்போதே சொன்னோம்; நம் தலைவர் சொன்னார்: “இங்கே அநியாயமாகக் குதிரைப் பேரம் நடக்கிறது. ஒவ்வொரு சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினரையும் விலைக்கு வாங்கிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறீர்களே!” என்று. “குதிரைப் பேரத்துக்கு என்ன சாட்சி இருக்கிறது? குதிரைப் பேரம் நடக்கவில்லை” என்றார்கள். இப்போது நான் சொல்கிறேன். எந்த சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினரை நீங்கள் வெற்றி பெறச் செய்து அனுப்பினீர்களோ, எந்தச் சின்னத்தில் வாக்களித்து அனுப்பினீர்களோ, அவர்கள் இப்போது கட்சி மாறி வேறு கட்சிக்குப் போய், அவர்களுக்கே திருப்பிச் சீட்டு கொடுத்து மீண்டும் உங்களிடம் ஒப்படைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். தாராபுரம் மக்கள், குறிப்பாக நத்தம்பாளையம் மக்கள், அதிமுகவுக்கு வாக்களித்தீர்கள். நீங்கள் மீண்டும் அதிமுக சார்பில் போட்டியிட்ட அந்த வேட்பாளருக்கு வாக்களிப்பீர்கள் என்று நம்பி உங்களிடம் வந்திருக்கிறார்கள். அந்தத் தவறை மீண்டும் செய்வீர்களா? இப்போது இருக்கக்கூடிய ஆளுங்கட்சியின் வேட்பாளர், ஏற்கனவே நீங்கள் வாக்களித்தவர்தான். அவருக்காக மீண்டும் வாக்களித்தால், அவர் உங்களுக்காக சட்டமன்றத்துக்குப் போய்க் குரல் கொடுப்பார் என்று நினைக்கிறீர்களா? நீங்கள் எல்லாம் இந்த முறை பிக்பாஸ் பார்க்க ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டீர்களா? பிக்பாஸுக்கு முன்னாலும் ஒரு பிக்பாஸ் நடந்தது. தெரியுமா? சட்டமன்றம் 40 நாட்கள் நடந்தது. நாங்கள் எவ்வளவு கஷ்டப்பட்டோம் தெரியுமா? சட்டமன்றத்தில் சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் அவரவர் தொகுதிப் பிரச்சினையைப் பற்றிப் பேசுவார்கள். “எங்கள் தொகுதியில் ரோடு இல்லை, தண்ணீர் வரவில்லை, சாக்கடைப் பிரச்சினை இருக்கிறது, ஒரு சமுதாய நலக்கூடம் கட்டிக்கொடுங்கள், ஒரு விளையாட்டு மைதானம் அமைத்துக்கொடுங்கள், ஒரு பள்ளி கட்டிக்கொடுங்கள்” என்று சொல்வார்கள். “எங்கள் தொகுதியில் இந்தப் பிரச்சினை இருக்கிறது; சரி செய்து கொடுங்கள்” என்று கேட்பார்கள். நாங்கள் அதைத்தான் பேசுகிறோம். திராவிட முன்னேற்றக் கழக உறுப்பினர்கள் சட்டமன்றத்தில் மக்கள் பிரச்சினைகளைப் பேசுகிறோம். கேள்வி கேட்கிறோம். கேள்வி கேட்கிறோம். இதற்கு ஆளுங்கட்சி, முக்கியமாக முதலமைச்சர், வாயைத் திறந்து பேசியதே சரித்திரமே கிடையாது. “அது எனக்குத் தெரியாது. கீழிருந்து நீங்கள் ஏதாவது சொல்லிவிட்டுப் போய்விடுவீர்கள்; அந்த ஆளுக்குக் கோபம் வந்து என் மீது வழக்குப் போட்டுவிடுவான். இதற்கு நான் உடன்படவில்லை. என் மீது ஒரு வழக்கு இருக்கிறது” என்று சொல்வார். “தண்ணீர் வரவில்லை” என்று சொன்னேன். அதற்குக் கோபம் வந்துவிட்டது அவருக்கு. சரியா?
